Even though the carb has a spring built into the throttle plate mechanism they all also have a second spring helping it close the throttle. The one you pictured looks like the right one. It goes from the front of the plate that the linkage is on to a spot below that. It doesn't matter where. On most of mine I move it around to give me the best pedal feel and carb operation. You need that spring sometimes to help the throttle plates close fully against the set screw, otherwise the throttle will stop in a different spot each time and idle at different RPMs every time.

thanks the hippie i bought it from said a lil old lady owned it and her sun worked at the AMC dealer and he maintained it for her but its deff gonna need some rust repair on the doors but i'm learning to weld so think i'm gonna practice and then do some repairs
