Thanks for the tips on finding rot and rust guys, I'm going to give him a call tomorrow to make an offer and make sure to check out those areas before I hand him the money. It rally looked surprisingly clean underneath and under the hood, I was very impressed for a 30 yr old vehicle. I presume I can see those spots with a good flashlight from underneath, it definitely sits high enough that I could easily peek around.

I'm getting pretty excited to get this thing home and get the little bits fixed so I can make it my daily driver. I might come calling if I can't find the replacement part for the door latch maddog, though the owner has already found a local yard off I-25. He seems to have a pretty good list of where to get each of the different things that need to be fixed, just hasn't had time to fix them.

My Tacoma is going to be sad.

keep us in the loop. The door issue should be an easy fix. Usually just a broken tang on the handle. Make sure to lube the internal linkages to the handle well and if there is door sag then rebuild the door hinges.

I bit the bullet and he's pulled it off of Craigslist, I'll be picking up my big ugly wagon today or tomorrow evening. This is presuming I don't find some hidden cancer in my second look and that it drives fine and doesn't have any problems there that I can spot. I'll fire up a new post with more pictures than makes sense as soon as its sitting in my driveway. (c: (They'll be boring, it looks more or less like maddog's survivor from what I can tell.)

Congrats on the ride! It looks pretty nice. I paid 1300 for my SX/4 and it doesn't even run. Though the SX/4 is a bit more sought after...especially with the black interior, sunroof, spoiler, and rear louvers...so I still think I got a decent deal. Did you end up getting it for 1500? Cause that still seems like a good price for a running Eagle with new brakes! Hope it treats you well. And I have a couple friends that live in Longmont! I'll tell them to keep a look out for a cool white Eagle wagon! :)

So i didn't drive it on Saturday, but just drove it now when I went to pick it up. The brakes are VERY stiff and it just keeps rolling to the stop sign, though he assures me it'll stop on a dime. I'm not as confident in the vehicle right now because of it. What should I expect out of the brakes on this thing? Squishy, super stiff?

almost sounds like you have a bad brake booster. if you can, check to make sure there is vacuum at the booster. it should have vacuum at the end of the hose while the engine is running. if you have vacuum, there is a chance that the booster is bad and needs to be replaced. if there is no vacuum at the end of the hose, follow the hose down, and check for leaks, making sure that it is connected to the intake.

congratulations on your new Eagle. I've had that problem with the brakes a couple of times before. one of the times was a bad master cylinder and the other was the rubber grommet on the brake booster.

The brakes are very good on an Eagle when working properly.
