I've got an '84 Eagle wagon and just replaced a fried chunk of wiring harness most likely hacked by a know-it-all previous owner. Got everything back together and working but when the key is OFF the EMISSION MAINT light is ON, light goes out as soon as the key goes forward to RUN/START.

Any ideas? Fried computer?

The computer doesn't actually control that light. I could be wrong, but I don't think 6 cylinder Eagles ever used that light. My Concord never had a bulb in that spot, and when I put one in, it lit up only when the key was turned to start, just like the brake light. Cars that actually used them had a switch that was connected to the speedometer cable, to turn the light on after so many miles.

Did you remove the computer and harness for the BBD? That should shut it off permanently. My wagon had it still working when I got it.

Some 258 powered jeeps, and maybe renix jeeps used an emissions timer. It was basically a clock, and after so long it would trip, and turn the light on. I am not sure if Amc put this into eagles or not

The BBD computer is still there but the carb is not wired to it. Car runs great.

If it's not hooked to the carb, you can remove it all with the harness. We did that on SOTE. Even the plug for reading the feedback system goes away.

Light should go out if you unplug the box in the pass side kick panel..

Guys, the Emission Maint light is NOT wired to the computer. Even if the feedback computer is taken out, that light can still function. It's wired to a timer, that is INDEPENDENT of the computer.
