I got a 85 AMC Eagle wagon with 4.2L 258 engine. I have the plastic valve cover leaking on it & car has 181K on it. I am looking for a replacement valve cover that is non plastic were can I find one at?

ebay, quadratech, clifford performance. every cover you find though is going to require you to drill and tap 2 holes on the drivers side of the head and they are directly above the water jacket so chances are high that you'll have a gusher. also if you drill and tap too close to the valve cover you woun't be able to get a bolt or nut on a stud to work.

I drilled and threaded the holes on mine with a broken shoulder (thanks to some help from Max98059) and I did studs instead of bolts. The cover I got was so close to the holes that I had to dremel around it to make room for T bolts (like old hot rod chrome cover hold downs)
I would've put a 4.0L head on, but it was hard enough doing this and my heater core with a broken shoulder!

yea i found plenty of valve covers to fit it only problem is they say not for ones with plastic valve covers. An if they are a fit why do you have to drill the holes for? I am looking for a direct fit something that will work.

The holes on the driver's side were locator holes and usually were not drilled deep enough and then tapped for fasteners. Some were, but most were not. If you have a "recall campaign" cover it may have already been done for you by the dealer.

thanks but now just going to sell it. I needed something bigger to haul stuff in so I bought a 85 Dodge Ram B350 1 ton van. I am going to sell the 85 AMC Eagle wagon 4wd & my 82 Porsche 924.
