I have noticed this year that many people attending car shows just pass by the Ambo without looking at it. I have also experienced this at some level with the SX/4 and a lot more with the Concord. Many just don't know what they have passed by, thinking it is just another big plain jane from another car maker. So, I tried an experiment yesterday. I made up a sign (below) and displayed it on a standup stand under the hood. It proved very effective and I had many people do double and triple takes when they saw it and they actually stopped to take longer looks at the car, increased the question asking big-time, and quite a few had their pictures taken next to the car. Now, since Eagles are a little less rare than AMBO's you may have to change the attention getter but something eye catching should be easy to come up with, and even the rare thing could be used too with some of the lower production years. So here is the sign and how I displayed it.

have you considered explaining the 5% rule on a separate sheet?

I've been going to car shows for years, and I've never heard of the 5% rule until recently.

Kind of a rule of thumb used for collector cars. 10% for 25 year old (or more) cars that are frequently collected/saved. 5% for other cars that are not frequently collected/saved -- you know, family cars the grocery getters -- Concords are a good example of this, along with mom and pop Classics, Rebels, Matadors (except the coupe) and Ambassadors. Most AMC's fall into the latter category except for AMX's/Javelins, Marlins and some of the other "hot" AMC cars. I am guessing Eagles fall somewhere in between the 5 - 10% category. I really don't know who first came up with this but it has been out there for a while. I inserted the 40 year thing because the AMBO is over 40 years old and is pretty much original.

around here car shows are kinda a bust casue you see the exact same thing at all of them ..... mustangs and camaros. last year I attended and placed my s10 in the "big" city car show and not a single person looked twice at it, up the row a guy brought his 1964 chev motorhome and I spent most of my time talking to him cause he just brought it as is .... a well used motorhome. lots of people came up and where saying things like "this thing should be scrapped", "why would someone bring this" and so on.

and people wonder why I don't get out much

I'm not going to lie...I'd walk right past an S-10 at a car show too..

Now the motorhome sounds pretty cool! I'd take a gander at that! Might even see if I could go inside!
