rebels were neat looking cars, too bad you don't have it now, would make a good 4.0 swap candidate.

That one was a wagon and it is long, long gone. It served me well. AMC products were plentiful then and it was no big deal to retire one for another one. I replaced that one with a '73 Matador hard top coupe with a 360.

I like the looks of those body style matadors also. there was a 73 four dour in a junkyard, had a 258, and was in good enough condition to have been put back on the road again, but it disappeared from the pick and pull. they classified it as a 73 dodge matador

Probably a lot of you'll disagree with me, but I think they shoulda had a V-8 in option in the Eagles too. This 6 in a row doesn't do bad, but I've always preferred a V-8. Another bright idea that died at the Pigg Penn!!!

Turbo pace car

1981 AMX Turbo PPG pace car

Turbo-charged and fuel injected AMC I6
An AMX Turbo Pace car was built to be one of four official safety cars in the PPG IndyCar World Series for the 1981 auto-racing season. There were two design proposals, both using the Spirit liftback body and designed by Richard A. Teague, AMC's Vice President of Automotive Design. One car was shown by PPG Industries featuring a white/red/blue/black painted production 1979 Spirit AMX with covered headlamps and integrated and smoothed front bumper and air dam unit.[33]

The highly modified fastback car was constructed by Autodynamics of Troy, Michigan under contract from PPG Industries. The turbo-charged and fuel-injected 258 cu in (4.2 L) I6 was built by Turbo-Systems Inc. to produce450 bhp (340 kW). The car is equipped with Goodyear Eagle GT low profile 245x50x16 tires on 16x8-inch "Gotti" aluminum alloy wheels.[34]

This was the final chapter in AMC's AMX story, but the car survives remaining as original and complete from its duties as a pace car. It is owned by a private collector in Florida and the AMX Turbo regularly appears at automobile shows.[35]

thought of another gomer. The changing of the matador 71- 73 body style to that of the coffin nose era. the 71-73 bodystyle was popular among police departments, and handled well. they changed the car, got 9in my opinion) a goofy looking car that didn't handle as well. im sure the 5mph bumpers didn't help matters either. they could have milked the matador like ford milked the crown Victoria platform.
