getting my casper car project going again. 62 rambler classic 2 door. I have a 304 to go into it. my buddy is scoring me a fox body t5 to go behind it. im getting other parts together right now. found a ford exploder 8.8 with 3.73 lsd rear. got triangulated 4 link to go in it. many other goodies for it also already on hand.

im wanting to put the 4.0 starter in it. I can get a flex plate for a 360 auto that will take the 4.0 starter. but what about a flywheel to take the 4.0 starter? its a smaller more compact starter, that's easier to get a replacement for. anyone know of a flywheel that will work on the 304?

is the 4.0 starter a mitsu unit? thats what chrysler seemed to use on the 1990 258, and ax15 combo.

my car sat in my grandpas field for about 20 years. he gave it to me when I turned 18. I got it back to daily driver status before I went into the army back in '01. (got it in '00) it sat for almost 2 more years while I was over seas in korea, then in '05 I got to drag it to Oklahoma where I got stationed later. then after my tour in Iraq, it was time to do some changes on the car. '00 mustang gt disk brakes, '05 17" mustang gt wheels. refresh on the old 196 ohv I6. swapped out the t96 3 speed for a t96 3 speed with overdrive. I had it getting 26 mpg with iirc 3.54 gears, overdrive, and 245/45/17 tires. then I decided to try my hand at paint, and fix some body rust. that didn't go quite how I wanted it to. then I lost rod bearings. pulled the fenders off and then saw the major rust issues.

that's how its been sitting the last 3 years. no motor, and front body work gone. I got 62 classic 4 door for parts. tonight, got the interior stripped out, hosed out and all. it has pristine floors and chassis rails. they are going to be cut out and put into my "casper" car. the amount of rust this car sustained from sitting for 20 years sunk down in the dirt is amazingly BAD!!! and its from the high desert area of eastern Oregon/western Idaho. things don't rust here. apparently they do real bad when they sink down into the dirt. this car is where I got my "call sign" in the army, so I now use it as my screen name. I got told it looks like something that should be a fast car, but that tiny old 196/3 speed was as slow as they get. lol. pics can be found in the link in my signature if anyone is interested.

My old 196 '62 Rambler had the twin carb setup and was a faster car than most things built before '00. I switched to a 4 speed with O/D. I think it was a T86A.

tonight, I did some measuring, and figuring. I think im going to be looking for a black sport steering column with sport steering wheel, and steering box. looks like the steering box will fit in there. and with the eagle steering column, ill get a collapsible steering shaft, tilt wheel, hazard flashers, and parts I can still get fairly easily. interior is black and silver. so a black steering column will be a MUST!!

I painted my old one with vinyl paint after cleaning it with Super Clean and rinsing three times. I did the dash as well. The blue was annoying. I assume you're going stick?
