Thanks for the tip I did try that but no luck tho.. After talking with uncljohn on the amc forum site we have decided that the cam is not the issue. I wil revisit my dist. indexing again today but I am really thinking I might have the crank position sensor not lined up just right....we will see.

If the CPS was too close to the flywheel, it may have been thrashed. Check to see if you have spark.

well check the crank sensor and adjusted it just a bit. Still no luck. The engine fires on a couple cylinders but just wont hit on all six. I have re set the distributor till I was blue in the face, re checked the timming gears, and even re checked the plugs on the fuel injectors..all seem to be good. It has a new cap and rotor with a reman distributor. I even pulled the injectors to make sure they were all squirting fuel. The compression it 170 across all cylinders. The only thing I havent done is change plug wires and or try a differant 4.0 distributor. Could they have given me a bad one out of the box? I am at a loss for now I know I have fire it tries to start just not on all six....

all I did is have a friend come over today we talked about my project and its issues....after looking it over he said turn the key let me see how bad it is....the dam thing started....and ran. I shut it off and tried again sure enough it started again...I did move the crank position sensor a few degrees a couple weeks ago but I am sure by then the plugs were fouled and I did remove them to air them out over the last two weeks. Now a different problem very low oil pressure. I am using 5w-30 oil and at an Idle I would say I have 2lbs of pressure. When off idle it still dont even reach 10lbs maybe 5 lbs if I am lucky.
I pulled the distributor and ran my primer shaft with my drill. Still the same. The pump is moving allot of oil and it is flowing everywhere just no pressure. Any Ideas?

Probably sticky oil pressure regulator. That is assuming a mechanical gauge? 5W30 is too thin for AMC motors. I run Napa synthetic 15W50 which isn't a diesel oil, but it has zinc or zinc like qualities in it.

I agree...how does one unstick it???? yes mechanical pressure gauge just bought and also checked with a second gauge that I know works .. good note on the oil I will step that up also....I did have 10w-30 diesel motor oil in it but though It would be to thick to get to the top end.
