You can put the 5 speed behind the AMC 4 cyl pretty easily with a 2wd AX-5 trans from a 4x4 XJ along with the tcase. (I would swap the NP207 for an NP231 or NP242 in short order though!) Trans mount needs modding and possibly driveshafts (front. Rear was the same for the AW4/242 we swapped for 998/NP129 except we added the front yoke for the XJ case)

This one has the Pontiac 4-banger. But still has conversion/upgrade possibilities. The AMC 2.5 was not available until '83 and very few Eagles had the AMC I-4 engine. I think I have only ran across one that did. Most of them went into Jeeps.

He has limited or no knowledge of the Nest. He may know something about IE.

I saw a kammback spirit with the AMC I-4 sitting in a "shop" in Illinois. I don't know the year of that car but didn't they do away with the spirit line in 81-82

'82 was the last year for the Eagle and Spirit Kammbacks. Must have been a retrofit.

Tail end of '82 production (stopped in Jan 1983) was Spirit and SX4. I've seen 12 or so '83 AMC Spirits and 2 SX4s.

Nah, that would be naughty, on his part. I heard he is kind of a laid back guy these days.

'83 was not kind to the last of the 1983 two door AMC cars. 6,487 Spirit Liftbacks and 2,259 SX/4's. '82 was worse: The Gremlin based Spirits and Eagles died that year before along with the series 30 2-door Eagles and 2 door Concords.
